We came home quickly on Sunday and Monday. The road trip was generally uneventful, which was nice.
Highlights:
-too many dead deer on the side of the road. Memorial day must not be a regularly scheduled pick up day for road kill.
-song of the trip: Just around the Riverbend, from Pocahontas. Randomly came up as we were cruising the highway at top speeds, and it stuck. Unfortunately, it stuck really well and i even woke up singing it one day later this week.
-Three books "read" on CD. Uncharted, Bronze Bow, Grace Eventually. See Goodreads for more info.
-One long afternoon spent in search for Sonic Limeades. I even got so delirious for one i got off the highway and there wasn't even a Sonic there. I must have been seeing things.
-A peaceful night spent in Manhattan, KS and another one in Eureka, MO with friends who put us up.
-the worst part of the road trip was dealing with a broken side mirror. (Pretty minor, right?) But in the strong winds of KS, the mirror felt it was appropriate to fall off and then semi randomly bang loudly against the side of the car. Which was not appropriate at all.
All that to say that we rushed home to see our niece.
We spent a brief morning with Elyse before her afternoon nap. We thought that was it for another couple of months. BUT, to our delight, Jenn and Elyse are staying in town for a couple more days, and we can continue practice being good aunts to a little girl who doesn't know us.
