I met a guy and we were discussing grad schools. He defined Mars Hill as being the up and coming grad school of Emergent type students. He asked if I fall into that category? Emergent-ish?
And, because sometimes i don't really feel i completely understand the meaning of a word, i have become a close friend of dictionary.com (especially since our dictionary is packed and just about everything we own is still in boxes.)
What does emergent really mean? Do i fit that description?
emergent, adjective.
1. coming into view or notice; issuing.
2. emerging; rising from a liquid or other surrounding medium.
3. coming into existence, esp. with political independence: the emergent nations of Africa.
4. arising casually or unexpectedly.
5. calling for immediate action; urgent.
I do not feel this definition is quite adequate....i suppose this would make MH a school that is training their students to call for action, to go out and be a part of change, and to call attention to urgent issues....? maybe? Or is it simply that MH is growing and gaining attention? and that somehow i could be growing and gaining attention too? (which doesn't quite make sense to me.)
I am undecided about my own classification as emergent or un-emergent.
