Charms

We have sung this a lot at my church, and today i finally looked it up...it's an oldy. maybe 1759?

Come Ye Sinners
Come ye sinners poor and needy
weak and wounded, sick and sore.
Jesus ready, stands to save you
Full of pity, love and power.

Come ye thirsty, come and welcome
God's free bounty glorify
True belief and true repentance
Every grace that brings you nigh

Refrain:
I will arise and go to Jesus
He will embrace me in his arms
In the arms of my dear savior
Oh there are ten thousand charms

Come ye weary heavy laden
Lost and ruined by the fall
If you tarry until you're better
You will never come at all

Refrain

View him prostrate in the garden
On the ground your maker lies
On the bloody tree behold Him
Sinner, will this not suffice?

Lo th' incarnate God ascended
Pleads the merit of his blood
Venture on Him, venture wholly
Let no other trust intrude

Let not conscience make you linger
Not of fitness fondly dream
All the fitness He requireth
is to feel your need of Him.

Sometimes the depth of these song brings me back to much that i forget about my way home. For if i tarry, i get stuck on the path.

It seems the words are by Joseph Hart. the scripture reference is Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Todd Agnew has a new version, and Fernando Ortega and Amy Grant sing one that has most of these verses in it. BSF has taught me that finding all the verses to a hymn bring more depth to the picture. If we sing one or two that mean a lot, it is fine, but to participate in the whole story of a hymn....it's just....deeper.

For he does embrace us in his arms, even the weak and weary, those lost and ruined by the fall.
