-like holding a new baby. sweet. tender. precious. a gift of new life.
-as in music, to sustain a note or rest.
-holding the hand of someone you love. sweaty palms and an electric connection.
-hold the mustard. gross.
-to keep or maintain a grasp on something. or many somethings.
this one seems to be be most closely related to MHGS language....
to hold it all. how do we hold someone else? how do we hold ourselves?
and then there is holding on. or holding it all in. or holding off. holding up in the face of it all. and to hold with.
Synonyms: contain, embrace, espouse, have, maintain, deem, esteem, judge, persist, last, endure, stick.
this week i persisted when work was sorta miserable. i esteemed my roommates as we informally began the process of saying goodbye. i have empty boxes. i maintained full boxes. i contained tears and laughter. i endured.
i held most of my families voices as we finally got to connect over the phone. i held joy as my therapist shared her delight in me. i finished a book that i loved.
there is curiosity about what will come. excitement about reconnecting with old dear friends. excitement about a trip to Mexico. wondering about new classmates. aware that others' joy sometimes causes me sorrow. and that sometimes my joy causes others sorrow.
holding.
holding on. holding in. holding with. holding up.
Holding.
He's got the whole world in his hands.
