thersdae

i slept in until 10. Listening to Sarah Harmer and eating egg salad for breakfast makes for a good morning. Plus, the eggs should help with a positive attitude for the day. =)

A quote from sent from a friend:
"Writing teaches us to hear our cues, follow our promptings, enter and exit with grace, play our songs with heart." ~Julia Cameron
I was just discussing art with friends. what a funny thing it is. Maybe all secretly, we want to and do create beauty in our own ways. sometimes that's on the page, or the canvas, or with beads or music. and maybe not so secretly, we are all quite afraid of sharing what we make. Which makes me think of a Steinbeck quote about creating:

Our species is the only creative species, and it has only one creative instrument, the individual mind and spirit of a man. Nothing good was ever created by two men. There are no good collaborations, whether in music, in art, in poetry, in mathematics, in philosophy. Once the miracle of creation has taken place, the group can build and extend it, but the group never invents anything. The preciousness lies in the lonely mind of a man. And now the forces marshaled around the concept of the group have declared a war of extermination on that preciousness, the mind of man ... It is a sad
suicidal course our species seems to have taken. And this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual.

The part i like and need reminded of is that creating is usually done on an individual basis. That's me, resting, on my own, and letting the art come. Not running around crazy and being with people 24/7. We create well, if we let ourselves. and then i heard a sermon about resting and the things that came to mind for me included: writing, painting, creating. this CAN be resting.
anyways.
i don't describe myself as artsy. Who does? And how do you define that anyways? Who is the measure of what qualifies? Art that is shareable? Art that is real? All just words, right?
since I'm getting all these quotes in today, might as well throw this in the mix from the Four Agreements:

Maybe you need to stop lying to yourself about what you truly want.

If I'm honest, my creativity takes me places where others can't really go. And, sometimes i don't choose that. But when i do, it's good.
