When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
Refrain
It is well, it is well, with my soul, with my soul,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, tho' trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
My sin-- O, the bliss of this glorious thought,
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
And, Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as the scroll,
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend,
Even so-- it is well with my soul.
When I struggle to see His plan for good in situations, I doubt. When I feel weak in the battle, I want to give up. When I'm bruised and battered, I rarely cling to His truth. You know the song about Gratitude? Giving thanks even if we don't get rain, or daily bread? I'm just not very good at this.A friend has been challenging me to see that any suffering I do for Christ is an honor. I don't get it. How do I give thanks in all circumstances? How do I stand firm when I'm ready to give up? How is He my protector when I'm wounded? Isn't He big enough for my questions?
It is well with my soul. I'm learning to say it...even when sea billows roll, It is well. Whatever my lot, teach me to say, It is well with my soul.

I love your heart, Claire. It is raw and transparent. I am thankful for that. You question - and yes - God can handle your questions. Often when the sea billows are rolling and rolling - it is a choice to say "it is well." We don't feel it - but we chose to say it b/c deep down we believe it to be true. And eventually Truth wins - but the journey there is long. Glad to be walking it with you. I miss you too!
